“Oyasumi Sex” alternates between the views of the siblings Akira and Yui, who have a normal and peaceful relationship with each other. A rare hentai that’s superficially fucked up (perhaps distilled best in the “it’s been 2 weeks since I started raping my little sister” screencap meme from ep 2), yet leaves you feeling clean and wholesome when you’re done.
Basically, it’s just a dude fucking his sleeping sister, but the whole time there are mind games of “does he know that I know that he knows he’s fucking me in my sleep”, and vice versa. Depending on your tastes, this could create either a gratifying constant romantic tension or just blue balls that their True Feelings™ are never verbalized outright. There is an air of subterfuge and suppression to every scene.
Generally, I found this really hot, that they both knew they wanted each other but could only express that honestly through sex. That notion gets more and more out in the open as the show progresses, lending itself well to edging throughout and waiting till the final scene to bust. I do think that scene could’ve been a bit more climactic, which is largely why I gave it only a 7, but it’s not a disappointment either. I guess I was just hoping for a big crowning “Onii-chan, daisuki!” kissing moment right at the final creampie, which would’ve bumped it to an 8/9.
The visuals were pretty great as Mary Jane usually delivers. The sister was hot as fuck and reminds me of Mikan from To Love Ru. The sex was not that varied because there are only so many positions you can do while the girl’s sleeping, but what was there looked good.
The real standout though was the MC. I’m not sure I’ve seen a hentai MC like him before. He’s not UB. He’s not a hair-covered eyes blank self-insert character. He’s not cartoonishly fucked up, nor a complete beta who it’s hard to believe anyone would want to fuck at all. He’s just a pensive, horny teenager with feelings toward his sister that are clearly messed up but somehow understandable. And the fact that they’re both so conflicted and caring about the other made me quite endeared. I found myself definitively more emotionally invested in the 2 of them than I am for most hentai, and sympathizing with their approaches to love that only teenagers are dumb enough to get caught up in.
Overall, while I found it unique in those ways and well-made as a whole, it’s not the cream of the crop in terms of what gets me off most, which is why I watch hentai. If you want wholesome, intimate-feeling, vanilla, borderline-loli incest, it’s worth a watch, especially if you’re into sleep sex scenarios. For me, I wanted a bit more progression and to see them open up fully by the end of it, which keeps it at just a 7.
